Zero Waste Shaving - Why Safety Razors Aren't That Scary

Zero waste personal care has been the top of my consumer priorities recently. I've become aware of the amount of plastic in my daily hygiene routine and it concerned me so much that I have decided to make changes. As a student, I've been shamelessly using an old blunt razor to shave this past term (simply because I don't want to buy a new pack of plastic razors, when I could be spending that money on food.) Also, I'd been informed of plastic razors difficulty in being recycled, so I didn't want to buy them knowing they will just be sent to landfill. After doing some research into zero waste shaving options, I ordered a safety razor online for only £15 and began my new chapter in plastic-free shaving (you can also buy them in local zero waste shops). Anti-consumerism VS Eco-Consumerism Thoughts

Since starting my journey towards simple, environmentally-conscious living, I've reached the conclusion that the difference between this and my previous lifestyle is my rate of material consumption. It has made me question whether purchases I have made in the past were impulsive or considered, and what potentially influenced me to buy so many things. Both marketing and capitalism push for mass-consumption in order to make profits, but was I just an unconscious cog in the system or was I really aware of what I was doing?    Why do we consume so much in the first place? Western consumers have more possessions than they need, yet they spend more time and effort buying new things ( Menzel and Mann 1994 ). The majority of us have everything we could ever need to survive, yet we still continue to consume more and more. Why I Still Use CDs & My Fave Albums

CDs have kind of become my thing. I've owned them since I turned 5 and received my first ever CD 'Pop Jr', which I still remember listening to on a regular basis (and watching the music video DVD on repeat!) Following that prime-time of my life, CD's have just been a part of my growing up. They provided music to me when I couldn't simply search for it online, or stream through Spotify (there were days before Spotify and I'm convinced it was better before it existed!)
